Instructor, State Exec Officer, ETIA Trainer (for Instructors)
Parent Effectiveness Training (PET), Be Your Best (BYB)

Paddington, Brisbane
Sunshine Coast

I began conducting Parent Effectiveness Training courses in 1978, and in the last decade I have enjoyed seeing the transformations of people completing the personal empowerment course Be Your Best. I am filled with gratitude that the effective communication skills I learnt with P.E.T. have underpinned all the interactions with children and people in my life since then. My two sons are now parents and I am witness to their natural use of P.E.T. skills. In my teaching career I taught from early childhood to tertiary level focusing on Child Development and Communication Skills. Children, parenting, effective communications became my passion. In China, I conducted P.E.T. and BYB courses for expatriates in Beijing and Xiamen as well as training expatriates to become P.E.T. instructors. I wrote blogs for Beijing Kids and Jing Magazines as well as Teach Starter. Whilst in Beijing I co-authored a book with P.E.T. Instructors I had trained, titled, “Slurping Soup and Other Confusions: True Stories and Activities to Help Third Culture Kids during Transition”. This unique book contains twenty-three real life stories of expatriate children between three and twelve, followed by fun and helpful activities using effectiveness training skills. Since returning to Australia I have taken on the position of State Executive Officer for ETIA Queensland. I am also a National Trainer of Instructors for ETIA Ltd.

1. “Thank you for changing my life, and in turn, changing the lives of millions of Chinese families! (Never underestimate the power of a single yet determined human mind :-)) Kathryn is your dream instructor. I felt so comfortable with her, which helped opening up my heart and mind to receive her instructions. She is clear, efficient, organized, personable, attending and honest. Of course she has a lot of personal charm, which really enhances her instruction.” Yanhong Wheeler is a US citizen, mother of two, a PET instructor, author of more than 10 best-selling books on parenting and education in China (published under pen name 小巫).

2. “I met Kathryn for the first time at her instructor training in the spring of 2013. That was one of the happiest weeks of my life. I got to immerse myself in the Gordon P.E.T. model and under the tutelage of someone with over 30 years of experience! I watched as Kathryn compassionately and clearly corrected us and deepened our understanding. She cracked jokes, shared personal stories, assertively managed time and participants’ issues and was about as genuine as it gets. That course with Kathryn jump started my P.E.T. skills in a major way and my family became a lot more peaceful.” Catherine Banson is a certified P.E.T. Instructor in Hong Kong. Her successful ‘P.E.T. Vitamin’ blog posts help parents to implement parenting skills.

3. “P.E.T. rocks and so does Kathryn! P.E.T. affected real changes both in ourselves as parents and in the kids’ behaviors and we now have a solid model for communication which has closed the gap between our cross-cultural parenting styles, allowed us to get on the same page even though we don’t live together and created a loving environment under which the boys can thrive. P.E.T. was truly life changing and we’ll be forever grateful to Kathryn for the powerful tools and appropriate responses we learned from her!” Richard Robinson, American entrepreneur in Beijing, China
